Eighteen digits that check themselves
Three digits for the bank, three for the city or branch region, eleven for the account, and a check digit calculated from the rest. Checking the bank against the first three digits, and the check digit against the others, catches almost any single mistyped digit before payment.
Why the bank code must agree
SPEI routes by CLABE; the bank name on a payment is informational. Pick one bank, type another bank’s CLABE, and the payment goes where the number says. We refuse that mismatch before anything moves.
What goes into a payout
The CLABE and the recipient’s name. Mexicans find their CLABE in banking apps as the number to share for receiving transfers. Sixteen digits is a card number; eleven is an internal account number and will not route. Amounts are whole pesos: a fraction is refused, not rounded.
