What is NAPAS, the switch behind Vietnamese transfers

NAPAS, the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam, runs the switch that connects Vietnamese banks. Its NAPAS 247 service moves money between accounts at different banks instantly, at any hour.

A switch, a directory and a QR standard

NAPAS routes transfers between banks and keeps the directory that identifies them. VietQR, the national QR standard, runs on the same network: a scanned code and a typed account end up on the same rails.

What you send

The recipient’s bank code from the NAPAS directory, the account number and the name. Amounts are whole dong; a decimal is refused before anything moves.

Questions and answers

  • Where does the bank code come from?

From the NAPAS bank directory. The API returns the list, so your form can offer banks by name.
