What is Visa Direct, and how payouts reach a card

Visa Direct is Visa's push payment service: it sends money to an eligible Visa card rather than charging one, so the funds reach the account behind the card.

A card number instead of bank details

The recipient shares the number already on their card; no IBAN, no bank code, no branch. The issuing bank credits the account behind the card.

What you send

The card number, sixteen digits starting with a 4, the cardholder’s name and the sender’s name. Amounts are in US dollars with two decimal places.

Questions and answers

  • Does every Visa card accept payouts?

Not necessarily. Whether a card can receive a push payment depends on the bank that issued it.
