Mobile money, not a wallet app

The account lives with the telecom operator, not a bank, and needs no bank account. Money arrives from other users and payouts, and goes out at shops and agents.

What you send

A phone number in local format; in Tanzania, ten digits starting with a zero. The operator is worked out from the number, so the request is the same for Airtel Money and M-Pesa.

Questions and answers

  • Do I have to choose between M-Pesa and Airtel Money?

No. The operator is determined from the phone number.
